Aguero aiming to be Spurs´ nemesis yet again

February 11, 2016

If there´s one player Tottenham rightly fear, it’s Sergio Aguero. No player has scored

more goals against Spurs in the Premier League era with Kun scoring 10 goals in the

eight games he’s played against the North London side.

Sergio has also managed 10 goals against Newcastle United, but he admits Spurs

remain one of the clubs he most enjoys playing against.

“I´m not sure why I´ve scored so many goals against Spurs, it´s just happened that

way,” said Sergio.

“I hope I can keep up that form on Sunday and hopefully help us win this match, but

we know it won’t be easy.

“Last week we had Leicester who had only lost once away from home this season and

now we face a Spurs team who have the same record. We were disappointed to lose

last week but we will learn from it and use it positively.”

Spurs inflicted the Blues’ joint heaviest defeat earlier in the campaign with Manuel

Pellegrini’s men thrashed 4-1 at White Hart Lane.

City can ill-afford to follow a home defeat to a title rival with another set-back. Will

the manner of the loss in North London give the Blues extra incentive today?

“It´s not a matter of payback, though it was painful to lose in such a way,” said Kun.

“It´s a matter of maintaining our performance level. There´s no personal vendetta

against Tottenham. If we want to win the League, we have to win against our biggest

contenders. That´s what it is about and we’ll be doing all we can to bounce back from

the Leicester defeat on Sunday.”

Aguero admits City´s quest to land four trophies is going to be difficult, particularly

given the tough schedule ahead which includes Tottenham, Chelsea, Liverpool (twice)

and Dynamo Kyiv.

He said: “We have set ourselves high goals but we know it´s not easy to win every

competition.

“We´ll be doing everything we can to try to make it happen, but we’re conscious that

as we advance in each tournament, the harder it gets.

“At this moment, we still have a good shot at every competition. I hope we can keep

up the fight, but I am well aware that other major teams will compete fiercely for the

trophies, too, so we will need to be at our very best from now until the end of the

season if we are to achieve our aims.”
