An unforgettable celebration
The 32nd edition of the annual Yellow Night celebration, held by Ecuador's Barcelona FC to announce their line-up for the season, took place in Guayaquil with Kun as guest of honour. Sergio participated last Friday, sharing the new roster and taking part in a dinner with supporters of the Ecuadorian club.
Kun was warmly received by the fans, and was able to give a crowning finish to the event by playing in Saturday night's display match. That game was all the more important as it was the farewell of local idol Matias "Pony" Oyola – a 12-year fixture of the club who will be retiring from professional football.
The team faced the local Mushuc Runa FC in this match, with Sergio participating in the first 17 minutes. At the 18th minute, Sergio came out for Oyola himself, who entered the field to the ovation of the stadium.
After completing his time on the field, Kun continued the celebrations. Rather than taking to the bench, he joined the cabin where the official Twitch stream was taking place. Jumping into the streamer's booth, he kickstarted the cheeky banter by announcing he "could have surely played more minutes" and that he would "be speaking to the manager about it."
For the next 30 minutes, he joined the stream along with actor/influencer Jero Freixas, Uruguayan social media star Alaska, and the Yellow Night's host, Jose Chatruc.
The Yellow Night is now a classic event, which became even more popular after 2016 when international football superstars were invited to the event – among them, Ronaldinho, Diego Forlan, Kaka, Andrea Pirlo, Alessandro Del Piero, Mascherano, and Carlos Tevez. Kun was selected to bring his usual charm and charisma to the 2023 edition, making it an unforgettable celebration for the fans of Ecuador's Barcelona.
