Copa America: onto Semifinals!

Argentina overcame Ecuador 3-0 in a quarterfinals match for South America’s top international title. The win sets them up to tackle on Colombia next.

Messi, Lautaro Martínez and Rodrigo De Paul authored the goals of the match.

Sergio, who came in for the last minutes of the match, call upon the team to “stay strong together” across social media.

As soon as the game started, Argentina had the clear possibilities to score, including a one-on-one duel with Messi against the goalkeeper. But they couldn’t open the scoreboard, even if they showed clear superiority over their rivals. When the first half was almost over, an impeccable assistance from Messi allowed De Paul to score the first goal of the match.

During the second half, Ecuador took a more aggressive stance and gave Argentina's goalkeeper, “Dibu” Martinez, quite a tough time. However, as the game came to a close, Argentina was able to unbridle their strength and scored twice more – once, through a subtle pass from Messi that Lautaro shot past the goalkeeper; and then, through a super free kick from Messi.

Colombia’s victory over Uruguay means they'll to confront Argentina for the semifinals. Whoever wins that match will have to face the winner of the opposing bracket – Peru v. Brazil, the current host.
